OH No! It can't be! If this is Adam & Eve, then it is all of our ancestors, right? NO, NO,NO, Please NO!
I can't even begin to imagine why this ugly thing was created. Worse yet, someone actually purchased it! It is apparently the tree of life (even if it is a pukey yellow color) and hanging on it are Adam & Eve, each wearing a fig leaf. And then there is the white snake that looks like a painted turd with the magenta apple in his mouth. Just to add to the visual delight this piece provides, we also have two white doves, orange and blue flowers, and shocking pink, charteuse, orange, brown and green leaves. Oh, let's not forget the other apples sticking out all over on wires and the shocking pink base.
Had enough yet? Well, we aren't through. This lovely piece of folk art is not just a trinket. It is a functional piece anyone can enjoy in their home. It is a candle holder, with places for 3 candles. I guess it qualifies as pottery since it is made of fired clay, but all my instincts and love of pottery tell me it shouldn't be allowed in that category. It is ugly and I guess since it is most likely Mexican, it qualifies for MUCHO UGLY.
Measures 11" tall, 12" wide and 4" deep. Weighs a hefty 3.5 pounds. |
